Doing MLA citations has never been something I was formally taught. I knew that you needed to cite sources, but I didn’t actually know how to cite them myself using MLA format. My teachers in high school never cared enough to check or teach us the correct way to cite sources. I would usually just go on the website Easybib, which generates the citations for you, to cite my sources because thats what I was told by my teachers to do. Now, having been taught how to cite sources on my own, I see how wrong the online citation generators really are. Both The Little Seagull Handbook and in class instruction from Professor Emerson has helped me to correctly make a Works Cited page, and cite the sources correctly. I have also improved a great deal in correcting local errors in my paper with the help of Professor Emerson. She has taught us multiple ways to use punctuation, and how to properly use it within a sentence. At the beginning of class, she would show us TED videos on punctuation, and how they are meant to be used in sentences which was very useful for me in my future writing. Learning how to both properly cite sources using MLA, and learning to make local revisions has helped strengthen me as a writer and will help me in future courses at UNE.
