Throughout this semester of English 110, I have seen such a signifcant improvement in my revision process. At the beginning of the semester, I always struggled with getting started on a first draft, and looking at what needed to be revised throughout the paper. When revising, I would typically just look for surface level errors, or local revisions, and never looked deeper into my writing. Through the early parts of the semester, I didn’t know any revision strategies so I struggled to engage with the process. Now, as I have developed and learned revision strategies, I am able to effectively draft papers without any struggle, and I can focus on the importance of global revision. For example, in my chosen significant writing project, in my free draft I didn’t include a paragraph about how the integration of the arts and sciences could benefit nursing. After reading the draft, I knew that my paper needed more information about nursing. In my final draft, I added a whole paragraph on how integrating the arts would benefit nursing, which strengthened the argument of my paper. Once I had made the global revisions, I looked for all the local revisions that needed to be made. I checked for the proper useage of punctuation, and for correct spelling and grammar. Looking at both of these drafts, I can really see how far the development of my revision has come, and how I am now able to engage more efficiently with both local and global revision. Learning these skills had helped improve my writing tremendously, as evident in both of these drafts.
